  • What exactly is a neuromodulator?

Neuromodulator’s are an FDA-approved, prescribed treatment which can be used to treat a multitude of cosmetic concerns, giving both consistent and predictable results to patients. This product is indicated for temporarily softening frown lines around the brows, the forehead, and even around the eyes, commonly referred to as crow’s feet. Neuromodulator’s ease muscle contraction, leading to a relaxed and refreshed overall aesthetic. Minimal downtime can be anticipated with an entire treatment session lasting less than 30 minutes.

  • Where can a neuromodulator be used?

Common areas for treatment include the forehead, the “11’s” between the eyebrows, and crows feet around the eyes. Other areas of opportunity include utilizing neuromodulators to slim a thick jawline and relieve teeth grinding, in the underarms or hands to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and even in the neck muscles to relax noticeable platysmal banding. They can further be used for eyebrow lifting, gummy smiles, perioral lines and wrinkles, bunny lines around the nose, and even for a subtle “lip flip,” turning the patient’s own natural pink of the lip further outward, thereby giving the lips a fuller effect. Downturns of the mouth and even dimpling of the chin can also be corrected with neuromodulators.

  • Who should not receive neuromodulators?

While rare, there are some instances where Botox /Dysport/Xeomin are not recommended. It is not appropriate for those who have an active infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any botulinum toxin preparation or to any of the components within the formulation itself. In areas where inflammation is present, caution should be used with neuromodulators, as well in areas where there may be excessive weakness or atrophy of the muscles. In patients who suffer from neuromuscular diseases, they may not be recommended.

  • How many units do I need?

In clinical trials indicating Botox lasting approximately three months, patients received a standard dosage of Botox: 20 units in their forehead, 20 units in between their eyebrows, and 24 units between the crows feet (12 units per side). While this is the standard and expected dosage that the clinical trials utilized for these three areas, units can be customized in a personalized treatment plan with your licensed provider based on your personal anatomy, needs, and goals. Units/dosing will be under the discretion of your provider. Dysport and Xeomin units/dosage may vary from Botox.
