What is platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy?
Platelet rich plasma, or PRP therapy, is a minimally invasive rejuvenation treatment utilizing components of your own blood to encourage collagen growth and production. Platelet rich plasma has the ability to return the skin to a more youthful looking appearance over several treatment sessions. This treatment can be directly injected into areas of opportunity such as the dark, hollow circles beneath the eyes or into the smile lines around the mouth to stimulate your own natural collagen production. PRP therapy can also be used after procedures such as microneedling to trigger an overall facial rejuvenation process. This treatment has the unique ability to facilitate collagen production, energize skin tissue, smooth out wrinkles, even skin tone, and promote a healthy complexion.

what is platelet rich plasma (PRP) used for?

These issues can be significantly reduced and potentially completely revered with continued platelet rich plasma therapy sessions.

what are the benefits of prp therapy?
Platelet rich plasma is a heavy-weight in skin rejuvenation treatments. This treatment comes with absolutely no risk of adverse reaction as the patients own blood products are being utilized for skin health and rejuvenation. PRP injections and masks come with very little downtime or recovery, with results lasting approximately one year.
-
who is an ideal candidate for prp therapy?
If you are experiencing noticeable fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, and overall skin imperfections, PRP is an excellent choice to combat these issues. As this is a procedure utilizing your own blood products, it makes it incredibly safe for most patients as there is no risk of allergic or negative reactions.
-
how can I prepare for prp therapy?
For injections of PRP or using this treatment as an addon to other procedures (such as microneedling with PRP), Meraki Aesthetics and Company recommends to avoid smoking, alcohol consumption, and avoiding taking blood-thinning medications or supplements when applicable at least 2 weeks before and after the treatment process.
-
what should I expect during my prp therapy appointment?
During your appointment, your provider will draw a small amount of blood from you arm into a tube. This tube will be spun through a centrifuge to separate your body’s own stem cells and platelets from the rest of the blood components. The resulting liquid is a golden, protein-rich plasma which can then be used for injections or as a “mask,” after microneedling treatments. The appointment will take approximately an hour.
-
does prp therapy hurt?
Patients can expect little to no pain or discomfort with this procedure. When necessary (such as with microneedling with PRP appointments), medical grade numbing cream will be used to ensure patient comfort during the treatment.
-
what to expect after prp?
Immediately following PRP therapy, patients often experience redness and swelling at the injection site which may last for a few days. Some patients may experience minor bruising with injections which quickly resolves itself in the following days. After microneedling with PRP, patients can expect an overall pink hue to their skin with minor swelling for 1-2 days. With both PRP injections and microneedling with PRP, several treatments are typically recommended 4 to 8 weeks apart to allow for healing of the treatment area.
-
when will I see results?
Patients can expect to see results several weeks following their PRP injections, or microneedling with PRP sessions. As the PRP therapy works with the body to boost collagen production, it takes several weeks for new collagen to build. Once complete, the results can be expected to last about one year.
